My graduate collection was based on research I gathered in spring 2019, while studying in Kyoto. Photographs taken in the streets, shrines and temples of the city were translated into detailed drawings and collages, with a focus on repeat pattern. This led to experimentation with pleated and folded papers, informed by origami, to consider how patterns change when manipulated and folded.

The textile outcomes include screen-printed cotton, hand-cut and bonded onto organza for a three-dimensional effect. In contrast, silk and bamboo were digitally printed with pleat and fold patterns to give the illusion of three-dimensionality. These are complimented with samples of katazome, a Japanese resist-dyeing method, which has been used to create simplified patterns.

Together they form a versatile collection of printed and dyed textiles, suitable for a range of outputs.
